May 9, 1991:
“Discussion on need of new trustee for repeater holding extra class lic[ense]. Jim Johnson was elected from the floor to fill a vacancy on the Board of Directors.”

“Insurance policy is due June 1. Repeater is valued at $3000. It was moved that the generator be insured for $2000. Passed.”

June 13, 1991:
“A discussion followed regarding the wisdom of covering [the] generator insurance at $2000. Motion made to reduce insurance coverage to: repeater [$]1750 and generator [$]750 totaling $2500.”

“Max Heyde raised the question as to whether the club needs to carry liability ins. on the old repeater site.”

September 12, 1991:
“A discussion was held on the lack of activity on the club repeater. There were several complaints for the repeater: namely, too short time on timer & difficulty of getting audio through the repeater from outlying areas.”

October 10, 1991:
“Karl Burket reported that he lengthened the repeater timer interval from 1 minute to 2 minutes. The repeater otherwise seemed to be functioning satisfactorily.”

April 9, 1992:
“The only bill presented was for $42.50 for repeater & generator insurance. A discussion followed about what to do with the generator. Harvey appointed Carl Peterson, Gerald Hagans, and Chuck Harper to discuss our options regarding the generator and make a recommendation at the next meeting.”

May 14, 1992:
“Repair of the bent repeater antenna was discussed. Carl Peterson volunteered to climb the pole and replace it.”

June 11, 1992:
“The repeater antenna has been replaced with the isopole by Carl Peterson.”

“The possibility of putting up a packet node was discussed. Max Norquist was appointed packet chairman to get details worked out and report back at the Sept[ember] meeting.”

September 10, 1992:
Max Norquist gave a short update on the packet node at the repeater site. He reported that there is no name or phone no. on the building on who to contact in case of repeater problems.”

October 8, 1992:
“Harvey reported on the status of the repeater. The final amplifier is not functioning so it is now operating with the drivers. Carl Peterson is working on the final at present.
“The need for getting a name & phone number on the door of the repeater was discussed and possible corrective steps. Perry Van Patten was appointed to do this.”

“The possibility of putting an autopatch on the repeater was discussed. Jim Johnson was appointed to look into the costs that would be involved.”

November 12, 1992:
“Jim J. Reported on the cost of an autopatch controller. Various options and problems to be solved were discussed.”


December 10, 1992:
“There was a discussion on what to do to improve the output of the repeater until the faulty output amplifier is repaired. There may be a possibility of using a regular linear amplifier to increase the output.”

[Historian's note: No minutes found for January, 1993]

February 11, 1993:
“[Gerald] reported that his linear amplifier was hooked to the repeater early in Jan[uary] to boost the repeater output.
“Discussion on how to improve the repeater was held. A phone patch unit may be beyond our means. A better antenna would also [be] a great asset to the performance of the repeater. Jim Johnson moved, Jack Schmid se. That sec find how much a commercial grade collinear would cost ù motion passed.”

March 11, 1993:
“Sec reported on approximate cost of a Selway Station Monitor commercial collinear. The cost would be approximately 450-470 with a club discount.
“Carl Peterson mentioned he had a used commercial ant[enna] left over from phone company use that may be altered to resonate on our repeater frequency, if someone would volunteer to experiment with it.
“Carl also reported on his progress in repairing the repeater amplifier. Aside from a few parts to be obtained, it is progressing well and will be ready for a trial test in the near future.”

April 8, 1993:
“Discussion was brought up on a repeater antenna. Motion made to buy a commercial collinear for the repeater by Jack Schmidt, sec by Jerry McDaniel. Motion passed. Sec was instructed to inquire what freq[uency] it should be tuned for, for best results, then order one.”

May 13, 1993:

“Sec gave a brief report on the new repeater antenna which is presently stored [in] a storage shed in Meridian. There was some discussion on the best way to install it.”

June 10, 1993:

“Harvey gave a brief report on the new repeater antenna which is now stored at Perry Van Patten’s home. Harvey, Gerald, Jerry & Perry inspected the antenna and repeater pole for the best way to mount it. Gerald is constructing a mount and Harvey is looking into the possibility of getting the use of an Idaho Power bucket truck.”

“Jack Schmidt reported the options available if Mike Hudson works on the repeater amplifier. Jim Johnson moved, Jack seconded (1)option: new 100-watt board (2)Option: get the clubs spare new board rebuilt. Motion carried.”

“Gerald mentioned he heard some repeater users who may not have been legitimate users and the possibility of remotely shutting the repeater down if necessary. Jim mentioned there is a 220 link but no one seems to know the proper codes.

September 9, 1993:
“Gerald gave a brief report on the activities during the summer, of different club members in repeater maintenance and new antenna installation.
“Jim Johnson reported that the 220 link to the repeater can now shut it down.”

“Tom Wilson reported that another packet node has been placed at the repeater site and is running.”

“Jerry moved that we have Gary put a bar across the door of the repeater [building] to secure the door. Sec by Jack. Passed.
“Jim moved that the club authorize Tom and Gary to drill the wall and install locks on the repeater building. Sec Perry – passed.”

October 14, 1993:
“Sec had inquired about insuring the packet node, but Albert Wohlers Agency said any equipment to be insured would have to be totally and wholly owned by the club.”

“Jim reported that the Ider is working as well as can be expected for a home-built unit. A commercial built one would cost around $90 I f the membership so desires.

November 11, 1993:
“The need for a new IDer was discussed. As long as it is working, we should wait until we have more money in the treasury to consider a solution.”

“Gerald announced a work party for next Sat[urday] at 10:30 am to repair the repeater building roof.”

December 9, 1993:
“Gerald reported that the repeater roof seems to be holding after the last work party.”

“Jack moved, sec by Sylvie, that a special fund be started to purchase a new Ider. Any excess remaining to go into the general fund. ù Passed.”

January 13, 1994:
“The repeater seems to be working fine as is the packet node on loan from other individuals. A discussion followed on the possibility of a club owned packet node.”

February 10, 1994:
“We now have $165.00 in the IDer fund.”

“Dave Watson gave a report on the condition of our repeater and what kind of IDer and how it could be programmed in.
“Bob H moved, Harvey Sec, that we install a relay for the IDer first (have Dave) and see how it functions, then go from there to see what else we want to add to it. PASSED.”

“Dave Watson was authorized to order a relay for the repeater IDer and install it at his convenience.”

March 10, 1994:
“Jack Schmidt asked to be relieved of net control. After a short discussion, Ben Cook volunteered to get together with Jack and make a list of regular net participants and make out a list of net controllers.”

April 14, 1994:
“Scott brought up the subject of livening up the net each week.”

May 12, 1944:
“Dave Watson gave a report on the status of the IDer.”

“Jack nominated Chuck Smith to be the repeater coordinator. He was elected by voice vote.”
[Historian's note: This appears to be contrary to the constitution which does not make provision for a “repeater coordinator.”]

“Various materials were discussed for reroofing the repeater building to withstand the wind. Continuous rolls of stone treated roofing paper was mentioned. Ben offered to supply [the] spiral roofing screws necessary to do the job.”

“Jack mentioned there is a bootlegger on our repeater. A discussion on how to stop this abuse was inconclusive.’

“Ways to improve the net were discussed. Changing [the] net to 8 p.m. was discussed. It was decided to ask the participants on the net and report the results at the June 9 meeting.”

June 9, 1994:
“Ben Cook reported back on his survey of net time preference.
“3 ù 7:00
“10 ù 7:30
“1 ù 8:00
“10 ù No opinion.”

“Jim moved sec by Bob Haggerty that the net be moved to 7:30 pm passed.”

“Dave gave a report on the state of the repeater.”

November 10, 1994:
“The repeater IDer was discussed. Chuck reported that Dave has had health problems, but still hopes to get it installed in the next week or so.”

January 12, 1995:
“Perry gave a report on the IDer project. Dave Watson KB7TAM still wants to continue on the projectà”

February 9, 1995:
“Dave Watson KB7TAM gave a report on the voice Ider.”

“Perry gave a report on the condition of [the] roof. There is [sic] some shingles missing.”

“Perry also gave a report of the keys on [sic].” [Historian's note: This does not make sense, but, if memory serves me, there was some concern about keys to the building floating around, and no one knowing who had them. This report may concern that or the locks that were purchased to replace the ones with the old keys.–JRJ]

April 15, 1995:
“Dave KB7TAM gave a report on the voice IDer. At this time Dave did not bill the club for his work.”

May 11, 1995:
“Good discussion of our proposed autopatch system.”

June 9, 1995:
“Mike Hudson N7KNL gave us a talk on autopatches. He discussed the various type of auto patches. Full duplex, half duplex, & simplex. He also explained how these units can be used as a repeater controller. At this time he offered the use of a dedicated two meter rig for a simplex autopatch.
“Jim Johnson W7TYG moved that the acquisition of a [sic] autopatch and dedicated phone line be a club project. Seconded by Gerald WB7REZ. Motion carried. We all enjoyed Mike’s talk.”

September 14, 1995:
“Perry discussed the voice IDer on our repeater.”
“It was moved and seconded that Stephanie KC7DBA & Tom KI7UD be named autopatch coordinators. Motion carried.”

“àMoved and seconded that the TVRA autopatch be a closed patch open to club members only & [this enacted motion] be entered into the by-laws. Motion carried.”

November 9, 1995:
“A discussion of the repeater’s IDer was followed by a hand held DTMF encoder [?].”

“Jim Johnson W7TYG formally gave his resignation as station trustee of the club. We reluctantly accepted it. The meeting was temporarily adjourned while the executive committee met and selected Tom Gerdau KI7UD to be our new [station] trustee. In compliance with our by-laws, the club voted and accepted the Board’s recommendations. Congratulations Tom.”

“Tom Gerdau gave a list of the tones to used for accessing the IDer.”

December 14, 1995:
“Tom KI7UD asked for comments on how often the voice IDer should ID & what should the text be. It was moved to have it normally ID in CW & manuell [?] be set in voice mode for specific functions. Motion passed.

-->“It was suggested that a complete inventory of the club’s assets be made & turned over to sec-treas.”

“Discussion was held on getting some type of battery back-up power supply or ups system for the repeater site. This will be discussed at a future board meeting and results given to club. It was unanimously decreed that we are doing the best we can with what we got.”

“Check for deed on Loretta site. Call Lowell Bye on old repeater.”

January 11, 1996:

“Bob Haggerty AB7HL gave a report on Mike Hudson’s donation of 440 duplexers & antennas.’

“Discussion followed on various aspect[s] of emergency communications & lack of battery backup for a repeater site.”

“Stephanie asked for comments on the new format of the Tuesday nite net. Everyone seemed to like the way it is going. She also gave a report on a[n] offer the VOI club made to allow us to link with their repeater system to give us much broader coverage.”

February 9, 1996:
“Stephanie asked for donations for our 440 repeater.”

March 14, 1996:
“The technical committee says we need to buy a battery.”

“Stephanie asked that donations be started to buy a new 2 meter repeater for hi[gh] mountain use. She gave us some information about an individual offering to donate $500.00 to help buy the new machine.”

“It was moved & seconded that we accept Ben Cook’s resignation of net control. Motion carried.”

“.There was quite a bit of discussion on the preamble drafted for net control. Mark Riffe KC7KQT will be our new net coordinator.”


April 12, 1996:
“Repeater emergency power discussed.”

“Yard sale brought up by Ruth [who] suggested [it] to be [first] weekend of May (3rd and 4th) & donation sales money to be repeater acquisition moneys. Rex and Ruth to do it on Friday.”

Executive Board Meeting of May 2, 1996:
“Harvey displayed letter from Burns Bend ham club. Harvey passed the information to Stephanie for further action. Harvey presented our radio equipment insurance bill. Stephanie instructed Tom to help Harvey upgrade our insurance to cover new equipment.
“àTom KI7UD discussed the repeater’s [building’s] roof. Later on, perhaps we can put on a metal roof.
“Stephanie reported on a conservation [sic] she had with Larry Smith “KC7LJR”. Larry has been experimenting with DTMF tones to control a radio. Stephanie explained to him that our repeater’s controller is controlled by DTMF tones & is regulated by our club’s trustee KI7UD. She invited Larry to attend our meeting and get formal permission to use the tones. Larry did not show up at the meeting, but did call Harvey and said he was paying his club dues.
“It was moved & seconded that DTMF tones be allowed on the repeater on a case by case basis and approved by the board. Motion carried.”
