Treasure Valley Examiners is an independent group of VE’s who are not affiliated with any club, although most of them belong to Treasure Valley Radio Association. The members of the group are coordinated by W5YI-VEC.
We test once a month from September through June on the fourth Saturday of the month, except for November and June when it is held the third Saturday, and we have no tests in December. Special sessions are available upon request to accommodate special circumstances.
At the present time all testing (except for special sessions) take place at the Farmers Mutual Telephone Company's Community Room in Fruitland, Idaho starting at 9:00 a.m. The session ends at noon.
All tests administered by the group are based upon the new and revised question pools for all classes of license. (Changes are regularly made to all the pools.)
The group submits test data for all new candidates (persons who have not previously held an amateur license) electronically to their VEC (W5YI-VEC) who, in turn, transmits it electronically to the FCC. A new ham can test on Saturday and have his call by Wednesday.
Tests are $14 this year. Every January, the FCC will tells VEC’s and VE’s what they can charge that year.
Candidates must bring two sets of ID, one with a picture. He should have a pen and a pencil with an eraser. If he is already licensed, he needs to have a photocopy of his license, and the original. If he has a Certificate of Completion for which he wants credit, he should have a photocopy and the original with him.
